A low-hydrogen basic electrode tailored for welding chromium-molybdenum alloyed steels used in boilers, pressure vessels, and piping systems operating up to 550 °C. Delivers excellent arc stability, good slag detachability, and high mechanical consistency—particularly in stress-relieved or creep-exposed environments.

- Compatible base metals:
• EN: 13 CrMo 4-5, G17 CrMo 5-5
• ASTM: SA182/182M Gr. F2/F11/F12; SA213/213M T11/T12; SA387/387M Gr. 2/11/12 - Re-dry at 300–350 °C for 1–2 hours before use
- Typical PWHT: 690 °C for 1 hour
- For tempering: 0.5h at 700 °C, air-cooled
- For annealing: 0.5h at 930–950 °C, air-cooled then 700 °C hold
- Recommended preheat/interpass: 160–200 °C depending on thickness

A rutile-basic coated stainless steel electrode, E308L-16 is designed for welding austenitic 18/8 Cr-Ni stainless steels. With a low carbon core wire (308LER) and optimized ferrite (~8%), it offers maximum crack resistance, smooth arc characteristics, and superior corrosion resistance. The electrode produces soft fusion with minimal spatter, excellent slag detachability, and aesthetically clean weld beads. Suitable for use at service temperatures from -120°C to +350°C.
